Hi, I’m Shahabaz Khan. I’m a software engineer, and this is my personal site — a small place on the internet for notes on software, infrastructure, and the homelab I’m slowly piecing together.

Most of what I write here starts as something that didn’t work. I like the part of engineering where you have a symptom, a list of suspects, and no idea which one it is yet — and I’ve found that the write-up is usually more useful than the fix. So the posts tend to be long on reasoning and honest about dead ends, including the ones where I was confidently wrong for a couple of hours.

A running theme: being clear about what a test actually proves. It’s easy to rule something out that you haven’t really ruled out.

What I write about

• Homelab — Proxmox, Tailscale, self-hosted services, and the hardware yak-shaves that come before any of it. The homelab series starts with a desktop that wouldn’t power on and takes four posts to reach a machine that boots.
• Software engineering — patterns, tooling, and things I’ve debugged the hard way.
• Whatever else I’m learning at the moment.

If something here saved you an afternoon, I’d genuinely like to hear about it. Same goes for the posts where I got it wrong.
